GTIE

Happy Wednesday morning,

I've been on the road for a week now. All kinds of meetings, breakfast events and seminars have been on my schedule while I've been here in Helsinki. Today I'm finally travelling back home because tomorrow we're shooting new second hand clothes for our online store and of course we have the fashion show in shopping center Hansa. Soon I'll have to run again but before that, a few words from last weeks meeting with gTIE

Last Fall when I worked on my thesis, I interviewed Jenni Ahtiainen from gTIE among other professionals from the fields of fashion, design and business. During the interview we also tossed a few cooperation ideas in the air. Last Thursday I visited their new store to talk a little bit more about those early stage ideas. First of all, if you haven't visited their new premises yet, I definitely recommend you to. A boutique and a whiskey bar put in together, what a brilliant idea! And they also had plenty of room downstairs where they're going to arrange different "club events" once a month. The whole space is full of feeling.

Unfortunately, I can't reveal you any of our upcoming plans yet. Instead, I can show you a few photos from the meeting. You'll be hearing more when is the right time for it.

By the way, gTIE is also participating to Made in Designland project. Our crowdfunding campaign for our participation to the tour will be launched on Tuesday 25th March. Keep your eyes and ears open for more!

xoxo

JULJA's 2013 part 3/3

So, here's FINALLY the last part of our "Year 2013 in pictures" blogpost. Enjoy!

Had our first JULJA Second Hand photoshoot @ Kaapelitehdas. Photographer: Mette Kortelainen. Model: Annaliina Heiskanen.

We won a competition and got to use Kontti for a day at the walking street of Turku.

We shot a fashion video of our first collection. Video by Joonas Vohlakari. Model: Annaliina Heiskanen.

We finally got our own office!

Our online store opened 30th of September.

We arranged two photoshoots with talented photographer Mikko Puttonen.

We were extremely happy to see people wearing JULJA.

We organized two Pop Up Stores at our office.

We participated to Turun Kehittäjä competition where we got into semifinals.

We participated to a Christmas market by Uuden muotoilun yhdistys where we also had three fashion shows that included dance. All dancer and models were from Dance Studio Funky.

Plaekä & Kaverit organized a Christmas Pop Up Store at shopping center Hansa where we also participated. Avin Alyasi were singing there at "JULJA's day".

We arranged a Christmas party at our office for our cooperation partners and other guests.

So, here was a little summary on what has happened during the year 2013. Although this wasn't all of it, you got to peek a little to our everyday life.

We want to thank all of you who've been following our blog so far. We hope you will continue this year too. ;)

xoxo

Stockholm, our love

At the end of November we made a little trip to Stockholm once again. The city is so beautiful and fortunately not far away from Turku. And of course we forgot to pack the battery charger of our camera! So, these are the only pics we have from the trip. We also have some video material coming so keep your eyes and years open! ;)

PORVOO

So, now I'm going to bomb you with all the pictures that we haven't published on our blog earlier. These pictures are from the trips that we've made and the events that we've had lately. This first one is about the trip that we made to Porvoo, in southeast Finland at the end of November. The whole trip was arranged by incubator Creve & Basis project and the purpose was to get to know the creative industry in Porvoo. Together with the whole group we visited the local incubator as well as cultural center Taidetehdas. We also had a great chat with the founder and owner of Willatar, a company that makes clothes and accessories from recycled wool. At the end of the day we had a little time to make great second hand findings that you’ll find soon from our online store. Have you visited Porvoo? We just fell in love with the little cobblestone alleys, wooden buildings, Brunberg chocolate and toffee and the coffee from Porvoon Paahtimo. We bet the city looks like a Christmas fairytale land now in December. Have to visit that place again!

Modtissimo @ Portugal

So, Nora and I made a little trip to Portugal last week. We were invited to the Modtissimo fashion fair in Porto during Porto fashion week. The meaning of the trip was to find possible manufacturing places and fabric suppliers from Portugal.

We were a group of 11 people attending the fair from Finland and Estonia, mostly designers in the fashion field. Our flights, transportations, hotels, luches and tickets for the fair were all taken care of beforehand so basicly we only prepared ourselves to attend the fair and enjoy the city (which was very beautiful by the way).

For us the trip was very useful as we got to know a few very promising manufacturers. We also found a large selection of fabrics for our future collections which was like winning in a lottery as finding the right kind of fabrics has been a challenge for us. I wonder how full our office is going to get from all of the samples that we ordered from the manufacturers, haha.

We also got the chance to visit one manufacturing place approx. 50km away from the Modtissimo fair. The owner and a worker took care of our transportations, presented us the factory and also told us facts about Portugal in general. The visit was very interesting and the company seemed to be a promising and a reliable partner to work with.

Although the trip was too short (as they always are), we also managed to enjoy the city or at least its restaurants and shops. It was nice to take a few days off in this beautiful country before the launch of our online store. Even though the trip was about business and we had to work on the launch also, it’s always nicer to work in a different environment, especially when it's 20 degrees warmer than in Finland!

Okay, maybe now is the time for the pictures (that we actually didn’t take so much, boo) so you don't have to read this crap anymore. Haha.- Inka>Ps. Leave us comments about the content of our blog. What would you like to hear from? How often do you want to read our posts? We want to give you the kind of content you actually enjoy reading, so don't hesitate to tell us!
